Famous names are almost never leftover.
gpt.com is not sitting on a sidewalk. It is locked at MarkMonitor and sends people to ChatGPT. droid.com is a CSC corporate name that sends people to Star Wars. Dead startups usually keep the .com, park it, or sell it. They rarely let it drop.
This page will look up a real .com for you. It will not hunt names that sound like living retailers (Walmart, Target, Amazon, and the rest). That is trademark squatting. I will not build that list.
